The Loves of your life

Much of my work in this lifetime centers on how to create a more peaceful world by preventing violence before it starts.  The flip side of violence, I think, is love.  Though we hear “the love of your life”…and hear it alot, I think the tale less told is “the loves of your life”.

I’m gathering feedback from women about that here and I hope you’ll join me.

How many times have you seen the five word term ”the love of your life’?   I don’t ever get tired of seeing it, as I like the idea of one special love, the love that is transcendent, almost other worldly, and absolutely meant to be. But…I think it limits us.  Love is limitless, or it should be.  I’ve been gathering stories for many years about love and I don’t argue that we do tend to look for “the one”, the great love, the one that surpasses all others.  That’s why there is a full on bull market for anything referring to “the love of your life”.  But, some of us don’t get there or may not want to get there, and some of us take our sweet time getting there.

I’m a great believer in, and admirer of those who happily connect very young and go the distance from young adulthood to the end, yet the real world of love and the people who inhabit that world seem much more complex. My world was, and is, and I’m not alone in that.
Some of our experiences have been just plain dreadful, some magic, but all of them seem to teach us something about choices, our partners, and most importantly, our selves.  And, there are many types of love, of family, friends, causes, passions, places, but let’s start with romance.

I’ll try to do one post every two weeks. The “chapters” and the types of relationships are ones I’ve heard a lot about over the years.  Would love to have your comments on these…add, suggest I delete, or whatever you choose.
